"Best ke TESL?"
Well, aku dapat banyak soalan ni dari start aku isi upu sampai habis asasi year aku. It's a subjective question. Kalau kau tanya aku, memang la aku cakap best sebab aku tak payah belajar formula addmath yang merosakkan minda aku dari tingkatan 4 lagi (No offence to peminat addmath). But, the answer to that might be different to some people. TESL is a short for Teaching English as Second Language so basically, you will learn how to teach English. But during your foundation year, you'll only learn some of the techniques and fill yourself with all English thingy that you must know.
4 core subjects in Tesl are:
♥Listening and Speaking
While other 4 minor subjects are:
♥Malaysian Studies (Basically belajar sejarah. Well, say hi to your form 4 and 5 textbook!)
♥CTU (For muslim, you'll learn Pendidikan Islam. For non-muslim, you'll learn Pendidikan moral)
♥Computer Literacy (To hone your computer skill.)
♥College Study Skill (Well, you'll learn on how to..study.)
♥Language and Drama (The name tells you everything! Drama, performance, theater! You gonna love this class!)
♥Literature (Somehow, it's like those things that you've learnt during highschool.)
♥CTU (Same as sem 1 but more topics.)
♥TED (You'll learn on how to teach. Yeah.)
That's it! Some might say that those subjects are easy but yeah, it depends on how you 'treat' them. During my semester 1, it was quite hectic with all those new subjects. It was hard to cope with everything, especially when the lecturers start to give you your first assignment in your first university year! Yeay for that! Your 'sleepless night' has begun!
Some might ask about the core subjects. Writing, reading, listening and speaking, and grammar. Sound easy right? Wait until you meet your first test. Bhahaha. For me, grammar is the most challenging one. Well, it's basically everyone's enemy. Writing is quite hard too since there's a lot of things that you need to learn in order to write your essay academically. You only learn on how to write narrative essay during your semester 1. That's mean, you cannot survive only with that narrative skill of yours. (I suffered too T_T) Since I am a fanfic writer, it really helps me during my first semester.
But I enjoy writing the most since I love to write so I am happy to learn those things. My grammar is bad but it doesn't stop me from writing. You can see it from my writing here. Grammar berterabur kau! Listening and speaking is hard, if you are an introvert like me. You have to speak a lot, obviously. You are required to deliver one speech in semester 1 and 2 speech in semester 2 (It may change). You will be tested with listening and language skill during the examination. Pray hard so that the speakers (in the audio) are not from non-english speaking country or you will suffer. Trust me.
Reading subject is not easy tho. Don't be fooled by its name. You'll learn a lot of reading skills and there's also some presentations need to be done. But worry not, it's not as hard as grammar.
You'll learn 8 subjects per semester so there's no way for you to drop the subject. You gonna learn all of them. Don't worry, you'll do great, if you don't procrastinate. Well, I was that kind of student to and thankfully, I barely alive. The second semester is no joke. I lost count on how many times I've cried because of the stress. The assignments were given almost at the same time as well as the due date. Procrastinate, and you'll die. Trust me.
Okay, I am done with the brief explanation. In short, I love every single thing that happened in my life during my foundation year. It was a great war but I managed to end it with a party. I'll tell you more in my next entry okay? Or if you want to know more, feel free to ask me through my twitter or leave your comment. Babai!
